TRIP TO CHILLING WATERFALLS, KUALA KUBU BHARU

The Pupils Committee organised another hike with 11 participants on 25 July 2015 to Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) to experience the cold waters of Chilling Waterfalls. The name Chilling Waterfalls is a dead giveaway of what was to be expected of the water temperature. We began our journey, which took more than an hour, at 6:15 am from Jalan Duta Court. The drive passed scenic views of the Selangor Dam in KKB shortly before we reached the starting point of our hike. Unfortunately, we had just missed the sunrise. When we arrived at the entrance of the hike to Chilling Waterfalls we were greeted by the loud sound of water gushing through the streams along the walking path. However, to our dismay, the Park Ranger told us that the water level at the waterfalls had risen sharply due to a heavy downpour the night before and some streams were now unpassable. We were told to wait for the water level to subside by at least two feet,  before we could commence our hike. We decided to wait and s...

YCK provides and supports through various programmes and services alike, a safe house called Pusat Jagaan Baitul Amal Petaling Jaya (“Home”). The KLBC Young Lawyers Committee organised a visit to the home located in Petaling Jaya on 26 July 2015 to have a small Hari Raya celebration with the children residing there. The home currently houses about eight children ranging from the ages of 2 to 11 years old and they are well taken care of by a small team of caretakers and a part-time resident cook. The children staying at the safe home came mainly from broken homes, were subjected to neglect or abuse, and/or single parent households who are poor and unable to support themselves and their child.  We arrived at the home at about 10:00 am and the children were all beautifu...

KLBC YLC’s Community Project - Pertiwi Soup Kitchen

The KLBC Young Lawyers Committee (KLBC YLC) celebrated the season of Ramadhan by espousing the spirit of empathy and charity. On 26 June 2015, together with Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, 25 lawyers, who signed up immediately for the event within two days after it was announced, poured their hearts out in serving some 450 people on the streets of Jalan TAR and Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. Amongst the needy were the homeless, the elderly and infants. While many of the lawyers were initially foreign to Pertiwi Soup Kitchen’s standard operating procedures on serving, they became adroit in no time at all in performing special care to the needy, especially to the elderly and the infants. In addition to the food prepared by Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, which included rice, fish, fruits, syrup and coffee, the KLBC YLC brought biscuits and snacks to add flavour to the servings. “Service with a smile” was the tagline for the day, as the volunteers were happy that with what little they could con...
