Meeting With The Chief Judge Of Malaya for the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee’s Proposed Guidelines On The Mode Of Hearings / Trials
The KLBC was represented by the Chairman, Nimalan Devaraja and the Co-Chairperson of the Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee (“CPCLC”), Aarthi Jeyarajah.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the KLBC’s proposal on the Guidelines for the Mode of Hearings / Trials which was submitted in January 2025. The meeting was convened by the CJM following a written request dated 17 September 2025 made by the KLBC to the Chief Justice and CJM, requesting that the Proposal that had been earlier issued, be re-considered. This was as the KLBC had received feedback from members that the mode of hearing for all matters had reverted back to being conducted physically without any option for it to be conducted online. The request was made as the KLBC appreciated that members would face difficulties, not only in attending matters at the Kuala Lumpur Courts if there was a full return by lawyers to the Courts, but also in managing multiple matters across different Courts/states, which may further contribute to the backlog.
The outcomes and matters discussed at the meeting were shared with members through Circular No. 201/2025, issued on 7 November 2025.
There were five sessions at the conference:-
Session 1 entitled “Protecting Rights or Protecting the Accused? A Look Inside the Penal Code and CPC Reforms from 10:40am to 11:40am. Session 3 entitled “From Pixels to Prosecution: Legal Remedies for Cyber Sexual Harassment and Misuse of AI” from 1:40pm to 2:40pm. This session was presented by LS Leonard, Sonya Liew Yee Aun and Pavitra Kalaiselvan and moderated by Collin Arvind Andrew.

Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
Jointly organised by the Pupils Welfare Committee and the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee, the Pupils Introduction Session in May was held on 13 October 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium. Led by Michelle Siah Yi Yen, the session was attended by 85 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session is to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the elections to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It also included a session for students to discuss issues and problems they encountered during their pupillage period.
Also included
in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity &
Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create
awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate prejudices lead to poor
judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result in unintentional
discrimination and overall poor "diversity & inclusion" practices
in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Brenda Rangithan.
