Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”) was invited to set up an exhibition booth in conjunction with the Sambutan Hari Integriti Peringkat PPUM Tahun 2025, held at Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUM). The event took place over two days, from 4 to 5 November 2025. LAC KL was represented by four pupils-in-chambers Pang Khai Shean, Ethan Khoo Teng Ee, Johan Harith bin Hasan, and Ridzwan Izzani bin Mohd Roshdi as well as two staff members. They actively engaged with members of the public by providing legal awareness information and promoting the legal aid services offered by the Centre.
(i) 5 November 2025, from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm, with 61 pupils attending the briefing. The briefing was conducted by Michelle Siah Yi Yen;
(ii) 10 November 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm, with 93 pupils attending the briefing. The briefing was conducted by Michelle Siah Yi Yen. and
(iii) 24 November 2025, from
11:00 pm to 12:00 pm, with 28 pupils attending the briefing. The briefing was
conducted by Michelle Siah Yi Yen.
The webinar covered the following three main topics:

Pengurusan Strata (TPPS)
(ii)
Role and main function of
the Homebuyer Claims Tribunal (TTPR)
(iii) Role and main function of the Strata Management Tribunal (TPS)
The webinar was held via Zoom from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm. There were 48
participants at the webinar.
The session facilitated meaningful discussions on legal issues surrounding comedy, satire, and the law, contributing to ongoing dialogue within the legal and cultural communities. The event was attended by approximately 63 participants from diverse backgrounds, including members of the Bar and the general public.
The speakers were Douglas Lim Yew Sin, Firdaus Husni, and Shanmuga Kanesalingam. The moderator was Kuhan Manokaran.10

Pupils Orientation for
Compulsory Legal Aid Duty Batch 124/2025
The Pupils Orientation for
Compulsory Legal Aid Duty (Batch 124/2025) was organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala
Lumpur) (“LAC KL”) and held on Monday, 10 and Wednesday, 12
November 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Bar Council Auditorium,
Level 2 Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The sessions were facilitated by
Morhaneraj Rajakumar and Joachim Xavier. A total of 256 pupils attended the
orientation, which aimed to familiarise them with the structure,
responsibilities, and procedures of compulsory legal aid duty.
Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on
“Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to
educate and create awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate
prejudices lead to poor judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result
in unintentional discrimination and overall poor "diversity &
inclusion" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by
Aarthi Jeyarajah.

Training Session on
Employment Law & Industrial Court Practice
A training session on Employment Law and Industrial Court Practice was organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur (“LAC KL”) and held on Friday, 14 November 2025, at the Bar Council Auditorium, Level 2, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The session aimed to enhance the knowledge and practical skills of new volunteer lawyers and to expand the pool of Employment Law volunteer lawyers for LAC KL. The session was conducted by Janice Anne Leo, Partner at Steven Thiru, and Y.A. Tuan Arun Kumar a/l S. Kanesin, Chairman of the Industrial Court (Kuala Lumpur). The training was highly interactive, with active participation from attendees. A total of 52 participants attended the session, comprising members of the Bar. Feedback received was very positive, with participants highlighting the practical value of the training and expressing their willingness to assist in handling LAC files when required.
The session featured Dato’ Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, a senior practitioner with over three decades of experience in civil, commercial, administrative, and constitutional law. Drawing from his extensive practice and appellate advocacy experience, Dato’ Malik shared valuable guidance on the role of written submissions, distilling key arguments, anticipating judicial questions, and understanding the nuances between trial and appellate advocacy.
The session was moderated by Nevyn Vinosh, who facilitated a focused and engaging discussion, ensuring the session remained practical and relevant to participants at different stages of their legal careers. With 111 participants in attendance, the session saw strong engagement from pupils, young lawyers, and members of the Bar. The successful turnout and interactive exchange underscored KLBC YLC’s continued commitment to professional development and advocacy excellence within the legal community.

Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar was presented by Prof. Laban Asmar and moderated by Rene Bernard. The webinar was held via Zoom from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
This session demystified Generative AI and demonstrated how tools such as the Legal Copilot can revolutionise daily legal tasks. Participants explored enhanced drafting, legal research, workflow automation, and ways to maintain consistency with legal standards. There were 39 participants at the webinar.
The Basics Of Civil Litigation
Organised by the Pupils Welfare Committee, this webinar was conducted by
Ooi Jia Liang and moderated by Aina Zulaikha Ahmad Zaki. The webinar was held
via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 78 participants.
YLC 2025/2026 KLBAR-LIAAM Moot Court Competition
Moot 2025 concluded successfully with the participation of 9 teams comprising 27 participants, supported by 16 volunteers from the Pupils Welfare Committee consisting of university students. Spectators were welcomed with an admission fee, contributing to a lively and engaging atmosphere throughout the competition. The event welcomed esteemed members of the Mahkamah Tinggi and Mahkamah Rayuan, including YA Tuan Atan Mustaffa, YA Puan Arziah binti Mohamed Apandi, YA Dato’ Nadzarin bin Wok Nordin, YA Dato’ Su Tiang Joo, YA Puan Roz Mawar Rozain, YA Dato’ Anand Ponnudurai, YA Dato’ Muhammad Adam @ Edward bin Abdullah, and YA Tuan Roslan bin Mat Nor.
The event featured opening remarks by YA Dato’ Nadzarin bin Wok Nordin, who has served on the Bench since 28 November 2019 and was admitted to the Bar in 1986, representing the Lincolns Inn Alumni Association Malaysia. This was followed by a speech from Nimalan Devaraja, admitted on 1 October 2012, representing the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee.
Team 2504 emerged as the Champion, while Team 2502 secured the position of First Runner Up. The Best Team Written Submissions Award sponsored by Abang and Co was presented to Team 2504. The Overall Best Oralist Award sponsored by Lavania and Balan was awarded to Koh Shu Huan of Team 2504, who also received the title of Finals Best Oralist.
Moot 2025 was marked by exceptional performances, strong commitment from all participants and volunteers, and the honour of having distinguished members of the judiciary in attendance, making it a memorable and impactful event.
