Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar was presented by Izwan Zakaria and moderated by Low Kok Jin. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The webinar covered, amongst others, “The role of a lawyer when it comes to advising a technology company and start-up”; “What are tech companies and startups”; “Intellectual property: Protecting intellectual property assets”; “People: Dealing with founder’s equity, employees and other service providers”; “Fundraising 101: Transaction documents and investment-related matters“; and “Dealing with startup founders and entrepreneurs”. We had 116 participants.

Organised by the Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee, this free webinar was presented by Puan Fatimah Rubi’ah binti Ali, Tuan Ashraf Rezal bin Abdul Manan, Tuan Mahyudin bin Mohmad Som, Puan Salamiah binti Salleh and Puan Nurul Nadia binti Abdul Razak and moderated by Leonard Harris D'cruz. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. We had 179 participants.

CONSULTATIVE SESSION ORGANISED BY THE DEPUTY FINANCE MINISTER
The Deputy Finance Minister organised a consultative session with the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Finance Committee, represented by Vivek Sukumaran and Alvin Oh Seong Yew on 12 September 2021. Representatives from industries that were stakeholders to the 2022 budget also weighed in on their expectations at this meeting. We raised concerns about government funding for legal aid programs and suggested efforts to make justice more accessible to the B40. We proposed lifting taxes for commercial transactions to help revive business communities, and for more youth empowerment initiatives.

PUPILS INTRODUCTION SESSION - DIVERSITY & INCLUSION SESSION
The Pupils Introduction Session in September was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Rajsurian Pillai, the session was attended by 61 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period.
 
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion” which aim was to educate and create awareness among the pupils on, inter alia, issues related to gender sensitisation, sexual harassment and unconscious bias. The session was conducted by Tiara Katrina Fuad a member of the Bar Council’s Women’s Rights Committee and the Criminal Law Committee for the 2021/2022 term and Jasmine Wong, a member of the KLBC Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

MEETING WITH THE REGISTRAR OF HIGH COURT OF MALAYA
The meeting was held at 2:00pm via Zoom to discuss the proposal by the Courts to relocate the Family Court in Kuala Lumpur High Court to Bukit Tunku and to revamp the operations of the same. The Bar Council Family Law Committee was represented by the Co-Chairpersons, Honey Tan Lay Ean and T. Tharumarajah and Co-Deputy Chairpersons Alex Tan Jee Hian and Pushpa Ratnam. 
 
The Civil Practice and Court Liaison Committee was invited by the Bar Council Family Law Committee to join the meeting and represented by Co-chairpersons, Nizam Bashir and Nimalan Devaraja.

MEETING WITH THE MANAGING JUDGE OF THE CIVIL HIGH COURTS AND FAMILY COURT
The meeting was held at 3:00pm via Zoom and it was to discuss issues raised from members regarding Family High Courts.
 
The Civil Practice and Court Liaison Committee CPCLC was represented by Co-Chairpersons, Nizam Bashir and Nimalan Devaraja. The Bar Council Family Law Committee also joined the meeting and represented by the Co-Chairpersons, Honey Tan Lay Ean and T. Tharumarajah and Co-Deputy Chairpersons Alex Tan Jee Hian and Pushpa Ratnam.

THE BASICS OF CONVEYANCING FOR PUPILS AND YOUNG LAWYERS
Organised by the Pupils Committee, this webinar was conducted by Michael Leow Yon Meng. It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:30pm. We had 135 participants.

MEETING WITH IBU PEJABAT POLIS KONTINJEN KUALA LUMPUR (IPK KL)         
The meeting was held on Tuesday, 28 September 2021 at 10:15am via Zoom. The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee was represented by the Chairperson of the Criminal Law Practice Committee (“CLPC”), Collin Arvind Andrew, Chairperson of the KL Legal Aid Centre, Yoges M. Verasuntharam and the Chairperson of the Pupils Committee, Rajsurian Pillai. The meeting was also attended by two members of the CLPC namely Purshotaman a/l Puvanendran and Chan Yen Hui.

Among the issues discussed were the delay of arrival of the Accused Person (OKT) at the Courtroom, allocation of time for lawyers to interview OKT and Suspected Person (OYDS), the delay of Investigation Paper (IP) brought to Court and other related matters.
