Pupils Introduction Session 

Due to CMCO, the Pupils Introduction Session in May was held online via Cisco Webex. Led by Rajsurian Pillai, the session was attended by 77 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session is to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period. The other members of the KLBC also join in the online session to engage with the pupils and provide input and possible solutions to their problems.

Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion” which aim was to educate and create awareness among the pupils on, inter alia, issues related to gender sensitisation, sexual harassment and unconscious bias. The session was conducted by Thilaga of Justice for Sisters and Goh Siu Lin.

Donation Drive For Kajang Prison

The Criminal Law Practice Committee (“CLPC”) organised a Donation Drive from 1 April to 30 April 2020 to purchase essential and hygiene items for the benefit of the inmates in Kajang Prison. A ceremony, attended by the KLBC Chairman, Harleen Kaur (Leena) and CLPC Co-Chairpersons, Jacky Loi Yap Loong and Collin Arvind Andrew, was held on Wednesday, 20 May 2020 at 3:00 pm at the Kajang Prison to hand over the items as listed below. Present to receive the items on behalf of the Kajang Prison was the Director of the Kajang Prison.

1. 1050 pieces Facemask
2. 12 bottles Hand Sanitizer 
3. 1008 bar Dettol Soap
4. 40 boxes Gloves
5. 24 bottles Floor Cleaner
6. 24 bottles Disinfectant liquid

Briefing And Demonstration Of The E-JanjiTemu By The Federal Territories Of Lands And Mines Office

Organised by the Federal Territories of Lands and Mines Office, the briefing and Demonstration of the e-JanjiTemu was held on Friday, 29 Mei 2020 via Skype Meeting. The e-JanjiTemu is a new system for members to make appointments for presentation of documents. The briefing was attended by five members of the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee members namely Nahzatul Ain Mohd Khalid, Lim Yin Faye, Susan Joseph, Lee Peck Ha and R.Yogeswari and Officer from the KL Bar Secretariat, Noratikah Shaharudin. The system was to be launched on 16 June 2020 but subsequently postponed indefinitely.
