After almost a month of fund raising, the Malaysian Bar collected RM31,495.25 from the members of the Bar; for it’s Palestine Humanitarian Fund. The Fund was initiated after the attacks by Israel over Palestine, causing the death of many people and injuries to many more.
On 6th February 2009, the Malaysian Bar handed over a cheque for the above said amount to Mercy Malaysia, a body which we have been liaising since the setting up of the Fund. Mercy have sent many doctors and medical equipment to Gaza via Egypt, and they continue to sent the same over.
The National Young Lawyers Committee was instructed to handle the fund-raising and led by Roger Tan and a team of lawyers, they went out to garner as much donations as possible. But at the end of the day, it was the joint effort of many other lawyers who helped the Fund took off.
Again, Lawyers showed that when it matters, they stood up and helped. Kudos to those who donated.
