Report on All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Rides

Contributed by the Social, Arts & Culture Committee The Social, Arts & Culture Committee (SAC) of the Kuala Lumpur Bar, together with the Environment & Humanities Committee, very recently organised an event called the All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Rides. Location of the ATV park – Kg. Kemensah, Ulu Kelang. By Zuraifah Abd Rahman (committee member of the SAC) 17 people participated in this event which comprised of the members of the KL Bar together with their friends and family. There were also a group of people from Al-Jazeera English. 8.45 am – Met with those who do not know the way to the ATV Park at the parking lot next to the Bar Council building. Cheque Presentation at Persatuan Dialisis Touch

Date: 22/08/09 Attendance: Lai Chee Hoe, Anand Ponnudurai, Chan Kit Kheong, Jessica Audrey Jeremiah Time: 10:20am Persatuan Dialisis Touch is a non-profit charitable Organisation established in 2006 to provide needy kidney failure patients with treatment at subsidized fees and to assist them to live normal lives. It also provides wholesome support and assistance to patient’s families. It also actively promotes the donation and transplantation of kidneys for the patients. Our arrival at Persatuan Dialisis Touch was warmly greeted by Mr Andrew Ng Yang Kuang (President), Ms Anne Tong (Vice- President) and other members of the Board of Management namely Mr William Wong Sang Lim, Miss Sue Ong, Mr Wong Chee Kong and Mr Jonny Ng Poh Ann. KL YLC report on Law Career Convention 2009 hosted by Kesatuan Penuntut Undang-Undang Malaysia di United Kingdom & Eire (KPUM)

Saturday, 22 nd June, Taylors College – The Kuala Lumpur Young Lawyers Committee (“KLYLC”) was invited to the KPUM-Taylor's Law School Law Career Convention 2009 hosted by Kesatuan Penuntut Undang-Undang Malaysia di United Kingdom & Eire ( KPUM) and Taylor ’s College on the 22 nd of August. The event took place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The convention saw the attendance of various large, law firms such as Zaid Ibrahim and Co., Shook Lin & Bok, Shearn Delamore, Skrine and the highly stylistic Lee Hishamuddin Allen and Gledhill whose booth consisted of an amazing array of IKEA-esque furniture The KLYLC was offered a room next to Shook Lin and Bok The KLYLC scheduled two main sessions. Report on the Visit to NACSCOM Setapak for Cheque Presentation

On 15.8.2009, the Kuala Lumpur Young Lawyers Committee (“KLYLC”) sent a team, led by Fam Yu Min to the Old Folks Home in Setapak run by the National Council of Senior Citizens Organisations Malaysia (“NACSCOM”) and officially handed over the proceeds collected from the Charity Night 2009 held on 3.7.2009. The team was accompanied by Richard Wee, Jessica Audrey Jeremiah and Melissa Dass. When they arrived at NACSCOM, they were greeted by Mr Tang who is the Home Manager of NACSCOM. Mr Tang has also taken the liberty to bring them around the premises and visit the residents in NACSCOM. After the short tour within the premises, Richard Wee, in his capacity as the Honorary Secretary of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, presented the cheque to NACSCOM and Mr Tang was very glad with the amount collected and appreciative of the works of the KLYLC. Collection drive for the underprivileged children at Rainbow Home

Dear All, The Social, Arts and Culture Committee (“SAC”) is organising a non-monetary collection drive for the underprivileged children at Rainbow Home. Rainbow Home is located at No. 125, Jalan Pakis 2, Taman Fengrove, Cheras, 43200, Selangor, and currently houses about 7 girls and 18 boys aged between 2-16 years old. These children are either orphans or have been abandoned. At present, the Home requires the following items for the children:- 1) School exercise books, in particular, maths exercise books, 2) Canned food, flour, garlic, white and dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, 3) Rugs, 4) Brooms and mops, 5) Used or secondhand clothes, in particular for wearing at home e.g. shorts, singlets, etc (in reasonably good condition), 6) Diarrhoea, cough, flu, headache, wind, scabies medicine and first aid kits. 19th Sports Carnival - KL Bar vs Royal Selangor Club - 18, 23 to 25 July 2009

The recently completed 19th Sports Carnival between the KL Bar and the Royal Selangor Club saw both sides winning 4 games each and declared joint Champions for the Tan Sri Dato’ Harun Hashim Challenge Trophy. The KL Bar won at tennis, badminton, cricket and netball whilst the Royal Selangor Club emerged victorious in darts, soccer, hockey and billiards/pool. The End-of-Games Dinner and Prize-Giving was well attended. The Boat race was held during the dinner. Though a non-competitive event this year, it was closely fought and won by the Royal Selangor Club. Results of the Series were as follows:
