MID-TERM REPORT - Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee 2008/09

The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) 2008/09 has been in office for about 7 months now. It is appropriate at this juncture for the KLBC to furnish members with a mid-term report on the work that has been carried out thus far. The KLBC has about another 5 months to go, until the AGM on 19.02.2009, and though many activities have been lined up for the next 5 months, we would welcome feedback from members on what more we can do and how we can serve you better. Just drop us an e-mail klbc@klbar.org.my or fax 26911090. Click here for the mid-term report.

PRACTICE DIRECTION NO. 1/2008 - ADJOURNMENT OF CASES

Y.A.A. the Chief Justice of Malaysia after consultation with Y.A.A. the President of the Court of Appeal, Y.A.A. the Chief Judge of Malaya, and Y.A.A. the Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, issued the aforementioned Practice Direction No. 1 / 2008. Click here for a copy of the Practice Direction.

The Practice Direction outlines the matters that must be considered by the Court when dealing with an application for adjournment of cases. It revokes the Practice Direction No. 1/2004. And it takes effect from 1 August 2008.

Having serious concerns regarding paragraph 1 (iii) and (v) and that the same is equally applicable to paragraph 2, the KLBC had on 5 September 2008 met with the Chief Judge of Malaya to address these concerns. Y.A.A. the Chief Judge of Malaya agreed to look into the matters raised. The KLBC will continue to follow up on this matter.

To avoid any inconvenience, members who have matters at the KL Courts tomorrow morning are urged to arrive at the Court Complex early.
