2 May 2018 Seminar on The Malaysian Judiciary and the Doctrine of the Basic Structure of the Constitution Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this seminar was presented by Dato’ Seri Mohd Hishamudin Yunus at the KL Bar Auditorium from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The seminar was attended by 18 participants. The lecture discussed the doctrine of the basic structure of the Constitution as propounded by the Supreme Court of India in the landmark case of Kesavananda Bharati v State of Kerala (1973). It also discussed the initial reluctance of the Federal Court to adopt the principle in Loh Koi Choon (1977); and the gradual acceptance of that principle in subsequent cases.
