KL YLC report on Law Career Convention 2009 hosted by Kesatuan Penuntut Undang-Undang Malaysia di United Kingdom & Eire (KPUM)

Saturday, 22nd June, Taylors College – The Kuala Lumpur Young Lawyers Committee (“KLYLC”) was invited to the KPUM-Taylor's Law School Law Career Convention 2009 hosted by Kesatuan Penuntut Undang-Undang Malaysia di United Kingdom & Eire (KPUM) and Taylor’s College on the 22nd of August. The event took place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The convention saw the attendance of various large, law firms such as Zaid Ibrahim and Co., Shook Lin & Bok, Shearn Delamore, Skrine and the highly stylistic Lee Hishamuddin Allen and Gledhill whose booth consisted of an amazing array of IKEA-esque furniture

The KLYLC was offered a room next to Shook Lin and Bok

The KLYLC scheduled two main sessions. One session was a ‘mock interview and Curriculum Vitae (“CV”) advising’ session where members of KLYLC very graciously assisted graduates on how to be successful at interviews and how to write an unpretentious and non-superficial CV that does not cause potential employer’s to dry heave.

The second session was a movie session where highly thought provoking short films such as ’10 Tahun Sebelum Merdeka’ and ‘Pecah Lobang’ was scheduled to be screened. The objective was to raise social awareness amongst the students

The morning began with Melissa Dass and Wong Poh Lim reconstituting a lacklustre Taylor’s College classroom into a mini-cinema coupled with a projector, laptop and stereo speakers. They also very kindly arranged small clusters of one-to-one tables which greatly assisted in the discourse between members of KLYLC and high spirited graduates.

Soon after, Aston Paiva arrived to fill the room with much more life, spirit and a sense of meaning. His presence was soon followed by that of Chan Kit Keong , Seira Sacha, Lai Chee Hoe, Sandesh Kabir, Syahredzan Johan and Richard Wee.

We were visited by approximated 20 young graduates who needed help with the CV, as we stepped up to our duty and exercised our responsibility with great meticulousness, care and fervour.

Then came the highlight of the evening; the movie screening. The movie screening was attended by the KLYLC members and several students. All seated silently and contemplatively swallowing in the beauty and magnificence of ‘10 Tahun Sebelum Merdeka by Fahmi Reza’. It was a pivotal and defining moment for the members of KLYLC who were present As quick as our party began, it eventually had to end with no longer any time for the second movie We packed up and left with a stronger will than ever before knowing that much change has been inducted into the hearts of the 20 young individuals who approached us for advice, guidance and elucidation.
