The Luncheon was held from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Library, Level 7, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex. The aim of the Luncheon was to welcome High Court Judges and Judicial Commissioners who have just been appointed or transferred to the Kuala Lumpur Court and to bid farewell to Judges who have been elevated to the Court of Appeal, transferred to other Courts or have retired. We also took the opportunity to bid farewell to the outgoing Chief Justice and President of the Court of Appeal who had also attended the Luncheon.
It was attended by the Chief Justice and President of the Court of Appeal, 2 of the Managing Judges of the Kuala Lumpur Courts, the Director of the Kuala Lumpur Courts,28 Judges from Court of Appeal and Kuala Lumpur High Court and 86 members of the Kuala Lumpur Bar. In total, we had 118 attendees for the Luncheon.
Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this briefing was presented by Nor Habibah binti Hamidon from the Stamp and RPGT Operation Department, Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia, and Kellie Allison Yap. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. We had 233 participants.

Urgent Arrest Training for Lawyers
(ii) 23 July 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm, with 16 pupils attending the briefing. The briefing was conducted by Tay Kit Hoo; and
(iii) 30 July 2025, from 11:00am to 12:00pm, with 39
pupils attending the briefing. The briefing was conducted by Michelle Siah Yi
Yen.
Tax Appeal Process
Organised by the Professional Development Committee, the seminar featured Nur Amira Binti Ahmad Azhar as the speaker and was moderated by Chai Sim Ann. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the session welcomed 19 participants for an engaging and insightful discussion.
The seminar covered the following areas:
(i) “The global crypto landscape: Demystifying Web 3,
cryptocurrency, blockchain, and digital assets”;
(ii) “Bitcoin, altcoins, NFTs, stablecoins, meme coins
differences”;
(iii) “Legal status of cryptocurrencies in Malaysia:
Malaysia’s approaches to legislations and guidelines affecting digital assets
and licensing and compliance requirements”;
(iv) “Highlights on crypto tax and other global
obligations (e.g. AMLA/CFT, MiCA, FATF Travel Rule)”;
(v) “Recent legal developments and the future crypto
outlook”; and
(vi) “Emerging opportunities for legal practitioners in the crypto space”.
The seminar
was attended by 71 participants.
Muay Thai Event
Organised by the KL Bar Committee’s Young Lawyers Committee, this event took place at Jordan Top Team Gym, Wisma JTTSTOREMY, Ampang on Sunday, 20 July 2025, at 10:00 AM. A total of 16 members participated in the session. The event proceeded smoothly, with the participants enjoying the workout.
Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
Also included
in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity &
Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create
awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate prejudices lead to poor
judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result in unintentional
discrimination and overall poor "diversity & inclusion" practices
in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Aarthi Jeyarajah.
Winding Up 101: A Practical Guide To Corporate Insolvency
Organised by the KL Bar Committee’s Young Lawyers Committee, the webinar titled “Winding Up 101: A Practical Guide to Corporate Insolvency” featured Christine Lay, and Arthur Ng, as speakers. Held via Zoom on Tuesday, 22 July 2025 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the session welcomed 99 participants for an engaging and practical overview of corporate insolvency law in Malaysia.
Both speakers offered practical insights from their respective litigation experiences, highlighting key considerations when handling corporate winding-up proceedings. Participants were guided through the relevant provisions of the Companies Act 2016, recent case developments, and common pitfalls to avoid in insolvency matters. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where attendees had the opportunity to raise queries regarding procedural nuances, real-life scenarios, and strategic considerations in resisting or initiating winding-up actions.

Organised by the Professional Development Committee, the seminar featured Tay Kit Hoo as the speaker. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the session welcomed 19 participants for an engaging and insightful discussion.
Post-EGM Social
The After Work Social took place on Thursday, 26 July 2025 at Sam’s Plaza Damansara. Approximately 60 attendees, comprising both pupils and practising lawyers had an enjoyable time interacting with and building friendships with fellow members of the Bar.

Business Process Improvement (BPI) Session
The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia (“PKPMP”) is currently implementing the e-Court Phase 3 Project (“e-KF3 Project”), which is a continuation of the e-Court System Phase 2. As part of the implementation of the e-KF3 Project, a Business Process Improvement (“BPI”) session was conducted.
The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee was invited to participate in the BPI session which involved engagement between PKPMP as the system owner, users and stakeholders involved in the use of the e-Court System.
The session was held from 9:00am to 1:00pm at Dewan Persidangan, Aras 1, Istana Kehakiman. The KLBC was represented by Tay Kit Hoo, the Co-Chairperson of the Civil Practice & Court Liaison Practice Committee (“CPCLC”) and Grace Teng Peck Yin, a member of the CPCLC.
The speakers were:-
- Professor Syed Farid Alatas, who is an educator at the National University of Singapore.
- Fahri Azzat, who is a practising lawyer and an author of several books.
- Amir Muhammad, who is the Managing Director of Buku Fixi.
The session successfully sparked a meaningful dialogue on literary freedom, the right to write and publish, and the challenges of censorship in Malaysian literature. It was attended by approximately 50 participants from diverse backgrounds.
