4 – 11 June 2025
LAC Pupil’s Training Batch 122/2025
Organised by the Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), the LAC Pupils’ Programs

training for Batch 122/2025 was conducted from 4 to 11 June 2025. The training sessions

were conducted physically at the Bar Council Auditorium, Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium and LAC KL training room. The trainers were Morhaneraj Rajakumaran, Narandra Kangatharan, Chan Yen Hui, Terrence Lee Rohui, Sumitra Devi Krishnan, Onnelea Dion Sandosam, Teoh Alvare, and Ranee Sreedharan, together with representatives from various NGO partners.

Updates On E-Invoicing And Recent Developments In Tax
The hybrid seminar was organised by the Bar Council Tax and Customs Committee in collaboration with the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee. The session was presented by Thenesh Kannaa, Anand Raj and Abhilaash Subramaniam from 2:30pm to 6:00pm at the Raja Aziz Addruse Auditorium.

There were five sessions in total:-

  • Step-by-step Guide on How to Issue e-Invoices was presented by Abhilaash Subramaniam;
  • Key considerations on e-invoicing and What You Need to Know was presented by Thenesh Kannaa;
  • Panel and Questions-and-Answer conducted by Anand Raj and Thenesh Kannaa;
  • Recent Developments in Tax and the New Self-Assessment Regime - Stamp Duty presented by Anand Raj; and
  • Recent Developments in Tax and the New Self-Assessment Regime - Real PropertyGains Tax presented by Anand Raj.

There were  117 in-person participants and 2700 online participants.


9 June 2025
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) Student Visit
Hosted by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, a group of 22 students from RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), visited Kuala Lumpur Bar on 9 June 2025 from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

The visit included a briefing by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee Chairman, Nimalan Devaraja, Treasurer, Rajsurian Pillai, LAC Chairman, Morhaneraj Rajakumaran, and Melissa Chua.

The students were briefed on the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the elections to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, the highlights of the Malaysian Bar, and the formation and day-to-day operations of LAC KL, including its partnerships, outreach programmes, and role in providing access to justice.  Students were also given a tour of the LAC KL office and had the opportunity to observe real-time client interviews conducted by pupils.

Insight into Medical Negligence in Malaysia
Organised by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”), the webinar titled “Insights into Medical Negligence in Malaysia” was conducted on 10 June 2025, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. The session was presented by Genevieve Vanniasingham. The webinar provided participants with an overview of the legal principles surrounding medical negligence in Malaysia, including the duties of medical professionals, key case law, and the process of establishing liability. A total of 78 participants attended the session.



16 & 26 June 2025
Pupils Admission To The Bar Briefing
The Pupils Admission to the Bar Briefings were held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium on 16 June 2025 and 26 June 2025. The first session, led by Michelle Siah Yi Yen, took place from 1:00pm to 2:00pm and was attended by 50 pupils. The second session, led by Tay Kit Hoo, was held from 4:00pm to 5:00pm and was attended by 22 pupils.

Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
Jointly organised by the Pupils Welfare Committee and the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee, the Pupils Introduction Session in May was held on 16 June 2025 at the KL Bar Auditorium. Led by Michelle Siah Yi Yen, the session was attended by 89 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session is to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the elections to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for students to discuss issues and problems they encountered during their pupillage period.

Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate prejudices lead to poor judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result in unintentional discrimination and overall poor "diversity & inclusion" practices in our workplaces. The session was led by Brenda Rangithan.


17 June 2025
Asian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) Student Visit to LAC KL

Organised by the Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), students from Brickfields Asia College, under the Asian Law Students’ Association (“ALSA”), visited LAC KL on 17 June 2025, from 9:30am to 12:30pm. The session, titled “Advocacy in Action”, was conducted by Melissa Chua. It included an overview of LAC KL’s structure, types of cases handled, outreach programmes, and the importance of legal representation for marginalised communities. The visit concluded with a tour of the LAC KL office.

The Basics of Family Law

Organised by the Pupils Welfare Committee, this webinar was conducted by Yu Yi Lin and was moderated by Nurul Arifah binti Abdul Hameed. The webinar was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 100 participants.


18 & 20 June 2025
Exit Evaluation for Pupils’ Programme Batch 121/2025

Organised by the Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur), the Exit Evaluation for Batch 121/2025 was conducted on 18 and 20 June 2025, from 9:00am to 1:00pm, at the Bar Council Auditorium, Level 2, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The sessions were facilitated by Joachim Xavier, Morhaneraj Rajakumaran, and Peter H. Santiago. Approximately 150 pupils attended each session.

19 June 2025
How To Read A DNA Report: A Practical Exercise For Criminal Trials

Organised by the Criminal Law Practice Committee, this seminar was conducted by Shamsul Sulaiman and moderated by Jason Kong at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 2:00pm to 5:15pm. Participants were given a DNA report from an actual trial to analyse and asked to prepare for cross-examination of the expert. The seminar was attended by 20 participants.

Pickleball Social
The Pickleball Social was held on 22 June 2025 at 91 Pickleball Club House, Subang Jaya, attracting a total of 32 enthusiastic participants. The event provided a lively and engaging environment for pickleball enthusiasts to connect, compete, and enjoy the game.

Expanding Your Practice Beyond Your Jurisdiction: Insights from an International Silk
Organised by the Professional Development Committee, the seminar featured Roderick Cordara KC as the speaker and was moderated by Dawn Wong Keng Jade. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 4:00pm to 5:30pm, the session welcomed 27 participants for an engaging and insightful discussion.

Trust For Estate Planning
Organised by the Professional Development Committee, the seminar featured Lim Kien Chai as the speaker and was moderated by Vanessa Yeong Yen Zan. Held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 9:30am to 4:30pm, the session welcomed 80 participants for an engaging and insightful discussion.


25 – 26 June 2025
Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) Training for Lawyers (Part 3)
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), Part 3 of the YBGK training was held at the Bar Council Auditorium, Level 2, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia on 25 and 26 June 2025, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. The training focused on Criminal Trial Advocacy and was conducted by Collin Andrew. A total of 15 lawyers attended the two-day training.

26 June 2025
Strata Management Tribunal
Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar was presented by Valerie Chong and moderated by Wong Kar Ling.

 The webinar covered the following areas: -

  • The Jurisdiction Of The Strata Management Tribunal;
  • The Procedures;
  • Forms; and
  • Case Studies.

It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. We had 83 participants.

After Work Social
On the evening of 26 July 2025, the KLBC Social, Arts and Culture Committee hosted its much-anticipated After Work Social at the vibrant Riff District in Bangsar. The event brought together an enthusiastic crowd of around 50 attendees, comprising both pupils and practising lawyers, for a night of good company, lively conversation, and relaxed networking.

Kicking off at 7:00pm and continuing well into the early hours of the morning, the atmosphere was buzzing as familiar faces reconnected and new friendships were formed.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and made the night such a success!

9th Kuala Lumpur Bar Team Pool Tournament 2025
The 9th Kuala Lumpur Bar Team Pool Tournament chalked up another fantastic day of competition on 28 June 2025, bringing together the Bar’s sharpest shooters and keenest cue enthusiasts. This year’s event saw 10 spirited teams comprising 35 players, including 6 ladies, battling it out over the tables in a lively display of skill, strategy, and camaraderie.

Returning favourites and new faces alike took to the tables in a dynamic mix of 8-ball and 9-ball pool, with the ever-popular Scotch Triples format once again proving to be a crowd-pleaser. In this format, three teammates rotate turns within the same frame, requiring not just individual talent but seamless teamwork and quick thinking under pressure.

The competition was fierce, with many nail-biting finishes and closely fought frames throughout the day. From impressive clearances to daring shots under pressure, the players showcased not just technical skill but true sporting spirit, making for an electric atmosphere both on and off the tables.

After an exhilarating day of play, the honours went to the following teams:

Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) Training for Lawyers (Parts 1 & 2)

Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), Parts 1 & 2 of the YBGK training were held on 30 June 2025, from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm, at the Bar Council Auditorium, Level 2, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The training focused on YBGK administration and procedures relating to Arrest, Remand, Bail, and Mitigation. The session was conducted by Morhaneraj Rajakumaran, Chan Yen Hui, and Dato S. Shanmugamoorthy. A total of 46 lawyers attended the full-day training.
