LAC Pupil’s Training Batch 119/2024

Pupils’ trainings for Batch 119/2024 was conducted from 2 to 13 September 2024.

Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) Training for Lawyers (Part 1& 2)
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) ("LAC KL"), Parts 1 & 2 of the YBGK training were held at the Bar Council Auditorium, Level 2, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia on 26 September 2024. The training focused on the YBGK administration and the procedures for Arrest, Remand, Bail, and Mitigation. It was conducted by the LAC KL Chairperson, Morhaneraj a/l Rajakumaran, Terrence Lee Rohui and Shashi Devan a/l Thalmalingam from 9:00am to 6:00pm. 26 lawyers attended the training.

Training Program on Legal Representation for Foreign Nationals
The Kuala Lumpur Legal Aid Centre (“LAC KL”), in collaboration with the Justice Project of Pakistan (“JPP”) and the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights (“MCCHR”), successfully organised the Training on Legal Representation for Foreign Nationals in Malaysia. This full-day training took place on 28 September 2024 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 8:30am to 5:00pm. The speakers for this were Zainab Zeeshan Malik (Policy and Advocacy Adviser, The Hague Institute for Innovation of Law ("HiiL"); Ravi Chandran Subash Chandran (Co-Chairperson, National Legal Aid & YGBK Committee); Collin Arvind Andrew (Co-Deputy Chairperson, National Legal Aid & YGBK Committee) and Kitson Foong. The event saw the participation of 51 attendees.

The webinar covered the following areas: -

(iii) “Practical Pointers Including Common Mistakes During Drafting Stage”;

(vi) “Boiler Plate Clauses”, and
(vii) “Remedies For Breach Of Contract”.
It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 127 participants.

Meeting With The Managing Judge Of The Kuala Lumpur Criminal Courts, Royal Malaysian Police, Malaysian Prison Department, Attorney General’s Chambers of Malaysia and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
The meeting with the authorities was held on Monday, 30 September at 3:30pm at Bilik Anggerik, Level 6, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.
The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee was represented by the KLBC Chairman, Alvin Oh Seong Yew, Honourary Secretary, Nimalan Devaraja, KLBC CLPC Chairperson, Rajsurian, Chairperson of Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur, Morhaneraj Rajakumar, the Executive Director of the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur, Sumitra Veeriah, the Assistant Executive Director of the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur, Jeevanathan Anggapan and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Executive Officers, Noratikah Shaharudin and Rosilawati Ibrahim.
The issues discussed during the meeting were concerning the conduct of criminal cases in the Kuala Lumpur Court.
