LAC Pupil’s Training Batch 118/2024
Organised by the Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), the LAC Pupils’ Programs training for Batch 118/2024 was conducted from 5 to 21 June 2024. The training sessions for these programs were conducted physically at the Bar Council Auditorium, Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium and LAC KL training room. The trainers were Morhaneraj A/L Rajakumaran, Narandra A/L Kangatharan, Selvaraja A/L Chinniah, Teoh Alvare, Terrence Lee Rohui, Selva Balan A/L Sinnan, Sumitra Devi A/P Krishnan, Tiffany Chin Zulsyahmi Husaini bin Kamarulzaman and the representatives from the respective NGO Partners.

Organised by the Young Lawyers & Pupils Committee, the briefings for the Pupils Admission to the Bar for June 2024 was held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium on: -
(i) 10 June 2024, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. The briefing was conducted by Tay Kit Hoo and was attended by 11 pupils; and
(ii) 21 June 2024, from 11:00am to 12:00pm. The briefing was conducted by Ooi Jia Liang and was attended by 38 pupils.

Pupils Introduction And Diversity & Inclusion Session
Jointly organised by the Young Lawyers & Pupils Committee and the Gender
Equality & Diversity Committee, the Pupils Introduction Session in June was
held on 10 June 2024 at the KL Bar Auditorium. Led by Tay Kit Hoo, the session
was attended by 91 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session is to
introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur
Bar, the elections to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee,
and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for students to
discuss issues and problems they encountered during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on
“Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to
educate and create awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate
prejudices lead to poor judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result
in unintentional discrimination and overall poor "diversity &
inclusion" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by
Brenda Rangithan.

The Meeting between the Managing Judge and Civil Practice & Court Liaison
Committee (“CPCLC”) was held on Thursday, 20 June 2024 at 3:00pm at
Bilik Anggerik, Level 6, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex. The Kuala Lumpur Bar
Committee was represented by the KLBC Chairman, Alvin Oh Seong Yew, Honourary
Secretary and Co-Chairperson of CPCLC, Nimalan Devaraja, Co-Chairpersons of
CPCLC, Shugan Raman and S. Saravana Kumar and KLBC Members, Thulasy Suppiah and
Brenda Rangithan.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss feedback received from both the Bench
and the Bar in respect of the Civil High Courts.

Organised by the Young Lawyers & Pupils Committee, this webinar was conducted by Surendra Ananth and moderated by Azfar Asadullah.
The webinar covered the following areas: -

was held from 25 and 26 June 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium.
There were five sessions on 25 June 2024 from 9:00am to 5:15pm. The sessions
were presented by Chong Wai Kuan, Dennis Teoh, Sarah Kambali and R. Yogeswari.
There were five session on 26 June 2024, held from 10:00am to 5:45pm. The
sessions were presented by Sarguna Kumaari, Donny Kwa Soo Chuan and Susan Joseph.

Visit by Students from University Utara Malaysia
40 Students from University Utara Malaysia (“UUM”) visited the Legal Aid
Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”) on 26 June 2024.The visit by 3rd year
law students was held at the Bar Council Auditorium, from 9:00am to 11:00am. In
attendance at the briefing were Melissa Chua Su and Narandra A/L Kangatharan from
LAC KL.
