GEDC – Breast Cancer and Sexual Health Awareness Day
Organised by the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee, this awareness
session was held on 7 October 2023 and was presented by Dr. Teoh Li Ying and
Dr. Jerilee Azhary. We also had representatives from Lembaga Penduduk Dan
Pembangunan Keluarga Negara ("LPPKN") & Pink Triangle
Foundation. They did health screenings such as weight, sugar level,
cholesterol, HIV test, etc. for each participant. They also included
counselling sessions on family planning and pre-pregnancy planning. It was held
at the KL Bar Auditorium from 2:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 39 participants.

The Meeting between the Managing Judge and Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee (“CPCLC”) was held on Monday, 9 October 2023 at 3:00pm at Bilik Anggerik, Level 6, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex. The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee was represented by the KLBC Chairman, Alvin Oh Seong Yew, Honourary Secretary and Co-Chairperson of CPCLC, Nimalan Devaraja, Co-Chairperson of CPCLC, Shugan Raman, and Grace Teng Peck Yin, Deputy Chairperson of the CPCLC.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues and present possible solutions to the same concerning the administration of the Civil High Courts in the Kuala Lumpur Courts.

International Day Of The Girl Festival 2023
Organised by Kemban Kolektif, Telenisa, Legal Dignity and the Clinical Legal Education Program, Faculty of Law, Universiti Malaya, this event took place on 13 October 2023 from 9:00am to 5:00pm at Pusat Alumni Universiti Malaya. The Bar Council Legal Aid Centre Kuala Lumpur (“LAC KL”) and the KL Bar Gender Equality and Diversity Committee (“GEDC”) jointly opened a booth to advocate for legal awareness to the participants.
Mindful Counsel: Navigating Mental Health As Lawyers
Organised by the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee, this seminar was held on 14 October 2023 and was presented by The Red Clinic team - Dr. Tesini M. Paramannanthe Veloo, Khor Mei Mei, Azreen Pharmy & Nat Siow, and was moderated by Brenda Rangithan & Marveyn Lingam. It was held at KL Bar Auditorium from 9:30am to 11:30am. We had 37 participants.
Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
The Pupils Introduction Session in October 2023 was held on 16 October 2023 Physical from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Weera Premananda, the session was attended by 94 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session is to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the elections to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for students to discuss issues and problems they encountered during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate prejudices lead to poor judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result in unintentional discrimination and overall poor "diversity & inclusion" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Kevin Chan Chin Chai and Ramesh Vadiveloo from Pink Triangle Foundation and Tay Kit Hoo, Chairperson of the KLBC Gender Equality and Diversity Committee.

Advance Training 2023
The Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”), organised 2 days training for pupil-in-chambers and lawyers that covered 7 different topics. These topics were Urgent Arrest, Converting/Renouncing Islam, Squatters/Land Acquisition, Migrant & Refugees, Domestic Violence & Sensitivity Training, Citizenship Issues & Statelessness, and Role of Volunteer Lawyers for LAC.
