Donation Drive In Conjunction With Ramadhan 2023/ 1444H
The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee, in solidarity with our Muslim brethren during
the fasting month, organised a donation drive from 23 March to 30 April 2023.
We managed to raise RM1,510.28 which we have channelled to Pertiwi and Kechara
Soup Kitchens. Our deepest gratitude to all who have generously contributed to
this donation drive.

Pupils Admission to the Bar Briefing
The May briefing for Pupils Admission to the Bar was held via Zoom. On 2 May
2023, 25 students attended the briefing; on 8 May 2023, 22 students attended
the briefing and on 15 May 2023, 33 pupils attended the briefing. All briefings
were led by Weera Premananda.

Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
The Pupils Introduction Session in May was held on 8 May 2023 and 22 May 2023
via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:00pm. Led by Weera Premananda, the session on 8 May
2023 was attended by 84 pupils, and on 22 May 2023 was attended by 71 pupils.
The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the
structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, and the highlights of
the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for students to discuss issues and
problems they encountered during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on
“Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to
educate and create awareness about how our unconscious biases and innate
prejudices lead to poor judgment and poor decision-making, which in turn result
in unintentional discrimination and overall poor "diversity &
inclusion" practices in our workplaces. The sessions was conducted by Tay
Kit Hoo, Co-Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

The Companies Act 2016 and The Companies Winding Up Petitions An Introduction
Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this seminar was conducted
by Alex Chang. It was held at the Kuala Lumpur Bar Auditorium from 2:30pm to
4:30pm. We had 43 participants.

Pupil’s Midterm Review Batch 113/2022
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”),the
Mid Term Review (MTR) for Batch 113/2023 was conducted by the respective
project heads. Pupils are given the opportunity during the MTR to raise issues
and express suggestions to improve the programs for the next 7 weeks. The MTR
for these programs were conducted physically. The representatives from the
respective NGO partners also participated in the MTR to give their feedback.

Stakeholders: An Overview Of Stakeholder Agreements & Consequences Of
Breach
Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this Seminar
was held on 12 May 2023 and was presented by Alden Yeoh Shuen Chun and Edward
Kuruvilla and moderated by Alan Yee Kah Hooi. It was held at the Kuala Lumpur
Bar Auditorium from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 26 participants.

Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar
was held on 18 May 2023 and was presented by Norbaizurah Abdul Jabar and
moderated by Sukhdev Kaur a/p Daliph Singh. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to
4:30pm. We had 71 participants.

Meeting with Humans of
Kuala Lumpur
Humans of KL("HOKL") is a movement that spreads legal awareness, by way of interviewing and posting series of stories from the people living in Klang Valley and posting a series of stories about them on their Facebook page. A meeting between HOKL and the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC KL”) was held to discuss the possibilities of collaboration between the HOKL and LAC KL to create awareness about LAC KL to the public. The meeting took place at 2:30pm on Thursday, 18 May 2023 at the LAC KL Conference Room. LAC KL was represented by the Chairperson (Terrence Lee Rohui), the Honorary Secretary (Morhaneraj), and Executive Director (Sumitra), whereas HOKL was represented by Samantha Siow.
