2nd Conveyancing Conference 2022
Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee (“CCPC”), this conference was held via Zoom on 1 December 2022. Siti Nurul Adillah Mohamad Zaki was the emcee for the conference. The welcome speech was delivered by the Chairperson of the CCPC, Alden Yeoh Shuen Chun and keynote address was delivered by Zemilah Binti Mohd Noor.
2nd Conveyancing Conference 2022

There were four sessions – Session 1 entitled “The Gradual Digitalisation of Land Transactions” from 9:10am to 10:10am presented by Anesh Ganason and moderated by Yogeswari K Rathakrishnan.
Session 2 entitled “Through the Lens of the Practitioners – A Roundtable Discussion On How Conveyancing Practice Has Evolved And Will Continue To Evolve” from 10:20am to 11:50am presented by Hoh Kiat Ching, Sathish Mavath Ramachandran and Jeremiah R. Gurusamy and moderated by Alden Yeoh Shuen Chun.
Session 3 entitled “Briefing On Stamp Duty & Real Property Gains Tax” from 12:00pm to 1:00pm presented by Asnidar Bt Mohamad and Nor Habibah Binti Hamidon and moderated by Susan Joseph.
Session 4 entitled “Updating Risk Management, Compliance And Best Practices To Adapt to Conveyancing Fraud, Money Laundering And Terrorist Financing In An Ever-Changing Conveyancing Practice” from 2:15pm to 6:00pm was presented by Mun Chooi Wan, Anesh Ganason, Parvathi Subramaniam, ACP Muhamad Tarmizi Bin Awang and Pushpa Ratnam and moderated by Kamala Mahlini P Jeganathan.
The conference concluded with a closing speech from the Honorary Secretary, Alvin Oh Seong Yew. We had 98 participants.

Meeting With Kuki Refugee Community
Organised by the Bar Council National Legal Aid Committee “(NLAC)”, this meeting with the Kuki Refugee Community which provides welfare for the displaced and marginalised Kuki ethnic refugees from Myanmar was attended by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”) representatives namely, Terrence Lee Rohui & Rajsurian Pillai (Co-Chairpersons), and Sumitra Veeriah (Executive Director). The meeting was held physically from 3:30pm to 4:30pm at the LAC training room.

Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this webinar was conducted by Steven Thiruneelakandan and Dipendra Harshad Rai and was moderated by Chan Edwin Tomas Junior. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. We had 138 participants.

LAC Pupil’s Training Batch 112
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), LAC Pupils’ Programs training for Batch 112/2022 was conducted from 6 to 16 December 2022. The training sessions for these programs were conducted both physically and online. The trainers were Morhaneraj, Usha Kula, Kitson Foong, Sumitra Devi, Aminahtul, Arun Kumar, Kasthuri Krishanan, Nur Fatin Syakinah bt Kamaruddin, Hariz Yusoff and the representatives from the respective NGO partners.

Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), this event was to appreciate all LAC KL volunteer lawyers who have contributed to the Centre. It was held at Bar Council Auditorium from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. We had 45 participants in total.

Legal Aid Booth At The Human Rights Festival
Organised by the Bar Council Human Rights Committee, this event took place at Lalaport Bukit Bintang City Centre. Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), was invited to open a legal aid booth to provide free legal advice and create awareness among the public about the services that the Centre offers. The event took place from 2:30pm to 7:30pm.

Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
The Pupils Introduction Session in December was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Weera Premananda, the session was attended by 77 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create awareness about how our unconscious bias(es) and innate prejudices lead to poor judgment, poor decision-making and in turn result in unintentional discrimination leading to overall poor "diversity & inclusivity" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Thulasy Suppiah, Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) Training for Lawyers (Part 1&2)
The Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), organised Parts 1 & 2 of the YBGK training which was held physically at the LAC Training, Level 3, Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The training focused on the YBGK administration and the procedures for Arrest, Remand, Bail and Mitigation. It was conducted by Rajsurian Pillai and Morhaneraj s/o Rajakumaran from 9:00am to 6:00pm. 27 lawyers attended the training.
