Lawyers and Paralegal Empowerment Workshop: HIV, Drug Use and The Legal
Environment and launch of the Legal App
Center of Excellence for Research in AIDS (CERiA), University of Malaya and Centre for Drug Research (CDR) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) organised a workshop for lawyers, paralegal and NGO representatives in conjunction with the launch of the Legal App, a legal aid application developed for people living with HIV and drug users.
The workshop was held on 19 and 20 July 2022 (Tuesday and Wednesday) from 2:00pm to 6:30pm at Impiana Hotel KLCC. The launch the Legal App took place on the last day of the workshop (20 July 2022) at 5:30pm.
The representatives from the Bar Council National Legal Aid and YBGK Committee were Dato Abdul Fareed Abdul Gafoor, Dato Rajpal Singh Mukhtiar Singh, Terrence Lee Rohui, Ruhil Amal Razak, Sumitra Veeriah and Jeevanathan Angappan.

Pupils Introduction and Diversity & Inclusion Session
The Pupils Introduction Session in July was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Weera Premananda, the session was attended by 77 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create awareness about how our unconscious bias(es) and innate prejudices lead to poor judgment, poor decision-making and in turn result in unintentional discrimination leading to overall poor "diversity & inclusivity" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Thulasy Suppiah, Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

LAC Pupil’s Midterm Review Batch 110/2022
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur), the Mid Term Review (MTR) for Batch 110/2022 was conducted by the respective project head.
Pupils were given the opportunity to raise issues and express suggestions to improve the programs for the next 7 weeks. The MTR for these programs were conducted physically and via Zoom. The representatives from the respective NGO partners also participated in the MTR to give their feedbacks.

KL Bar emerged overall champion with 42 points, winning in Golf, Pool, Football (Veteran), Volleyball, Netball, Badminton, Cross-Country, and Men’s Basketball.
