Fixed deposit
The Treasurer, S. Saravana Kumar advised the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee to
uplift the current Fixed Deposits that were placed in Affin Bank and move them
to AmBank as he had managed to secure a higher interest rate of 2.4%.
RM2,500,000.00 was placed for a term of 12 months at 2.4% and the balance
RM342,921.52 was placed for a term of 3 months at 2.1%.

Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), the LAC Pupils’ Programs training for Batch 110/2022 were conducted from 7 to 14 June 2022. The training sessions for these programs were conducted both physically and via online. The trainers were Collin Arvind Andrew, Morhaneraj, Thayalan, CR Selvaraj, Cik Sa’ adiah and Sumitra Devi and the representatives from the respective NGO partners.

Urgent Arrest Team For ‘Walk For Judicial Independence’
The LAC Urgent Arrest team was on standby for the ‘Walk for Judicial Independence’ organised by the Bar Council where members of the Bar and pupils walked from Padang Merbok to Parliament for the purpose of handing over a memorandum in relation to judicial independence to the Prime Minister or his representative.
The Urgent Arrest team for this walk consisted of 23 lawyers. No arrest was reported.

Organised by the Sports Committee, this competition was held at Wall St Club Sunway Mentari. 15 pairs, 3 being mixed doubles participated, with many new faces joining the fray. The competition was very friendly and was played in good spirits. The results were as follows:

Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan (YBGK) Training For Lawyers (Part 1&2)
Organised by the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre (Kuala Lumpur) (“LAC”), Part 1 & 2 of the YBGK training was held physically at the LAC training room, Level 3 Wisma Badan Peguam Malaysia. The training focused on the YBGK administration and the procedures on Arrest, Remand, Bail and Mitigation. The training was conducted by Rajsurian Pillai and Morhaneraj Rajakumar from 9:00am to 6:00pm. 24 lawyers attended the training.

Pupils Introduction And Diversity & Inclusion Session
The Pupils Introduction Session in June was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Weera Premananda, the session was attended by 70 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period.
Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion: Unconscious Bias”. The aim of this segment is to educate and create awareness about how our unconscious bias(es) and innate prejudices lead to poor judgment, poor decision-making and in turn result in unintentional discrimination leading to overall poor "diversity & inclusivity" practices in our workplaces. The session was conducted by Thulasy Suppiah, Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

Invitation By Court - To Discuss New Pupillage Petition Filings
The meeting with the Tuan Mohamad Kamil Nizam, the Deputy Registrar of Bahagian Kuasa-Kuasa Khas of the Kuala Lumpur High Courts was held on Tuesday, 28 June 2022 at 11:30am at Level 6, Kuala Lumpur Court Complex.
The Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee was represented by the Chairman, Vivekananda Sukumaran, Chairperson of Pupils Committee, Weera Permananda, and Co-Chairperson of Civil Practice & Court Liaison Committee and Social, Arts & Culture Committee, Lim Yin Faye.
The main issue discussed was the clarification on the new Pupillage Petition
filings.
