10 February 2022  15 February 2022 An Introduction To Industrial Court Procedures Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this webinar was conducted by Foo Siew Li and was moderated by Sandhya Saravanan. It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. We had 121 participants.  16 February 2022 Pupils Introduction Session - Diversity & Inclusion Session The Pupils Introduction Session in February was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Rajsurian Pillai, the session was attended by 85 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period. Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion” which aim was to educate and create awareness among the pupils on, inter alia, issues related to gender sensitisation, sexual harassment and unconscious bias. The session was conducted by Thulasy Suppiah, Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.  17 February 2022 Understanding Sukuk Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar was presented by Norbaizurah Abdul Jabar and moderated by Kathleen Samantha George. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:30pm. The webinar covered, amongst others, “Introduction To Sukuk”; “Comparison Between Sukuk & Bonds”; “Parties Involved In Sukuk Issuance”; “Regulatory Bodies In Malaysia”; “Brief Explanation On Types Of Sukuk Usually Issued Under The Lodge And Launch Framework”; and “Brief Explanation On Common Sukuk Structures Issued”. We had 81 participants.  17 February 2022 Young Lawyer's Career Progression In 2022 Organised by the Young Lawyers Committee, this Clubhouse session was conducted by Eddie Law, Janet Chai Pei Ying, Richard Wee and was moderated by Pang Huey Lynn. It was held from 8:00pm to 9:30pm. We had a constant stream of about 80-85 participants.  24 February 2022 30th Annual General Meeting Of The Kuala Lumpur Bar This year’s Annual General Meeting was conducted virtually via an online platform. The Office-Bearers of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee for 2022/23 elected at the AGM were: Chairman – Vivekananda Sukumaran; Committee members – S. Saravana Kumar, Collin Arvind Andrew, Alvin Oh Seong Yew, Nimalan a/l Devaraja, Terrence Lee Rohui, Lim Yin Faye, Thulasy Suppiah, Rajsurian Pillai, Shugan Raman and Weera Premananda. Harleen Kaur (Leena) was elected as the KL Bar’s Representative on the Bar Council. It was also confirmed at the AGM that the subscription for the year 2022 was to remain at RM125.00 per member. 25 February 2022 Introduction To The New Era Of Civil Litigation Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this webinar was conducted by Aarthi Jeyarajah. It was held via Zoom Webinar from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 110 participants.  |
