SCHEMES OF ARRANGEMENT: RESCUE TOOL FOR DISTRESSED COMPANIES OR UNFAIR CRAMDOWN OF CREDITORS?

Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this webinar was conducted by Lee Shih and Nathalie Ker. It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 147 participants.

BUYING AN AUCTION PROPERTY – LEGAL PRACTICALITIES & PITFALLS

Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar was presented by Zemilah binti Mohd Noor and moderated by Michele Lau Kai Lee. It was held via Zoom from 2:30pm to 4:00pm. The webinar covered, amongst others, “What’s an Auction Property”; “Why Auction Property”; “Type of Auction”; “Type of legal documentation”; “Tips when buying an Auction Property“; and “The pitfalls of buying an Auction Property”. We had 134 participants.

THE UNSPOKEN: UNCOMMON TRADITIONS OF THE BAR

Organised by the Young Lawyers Committee, this Clubhouse session was conducted by Choo Dee Wei and Jaspal Singh was moderated by Jesselyn Tham and Purshotaman Puvanendran. It was held from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. We had 141 participants.

PUPILS INTRODUCTION SESSION - DIVERSITY & INCLUSION SESSION

The Pupils Introduction Session in September was held online via Zoom from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. Led by Alvin Oh Seong Yew, the session was attended by 74 pupils. The purpose of the Pupils Introduction Session was to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee (“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period.

Also included in the said Pupils Introduction Session was a session on “Diversity & Inclusion” which aim was to educate and create awareness among the pupils on, inter alia, issues related to gender sensitisation, sexual harassment and unconscious bias. The session was by Thulasy Suppiah, Chairperson of the Gender Equality & Diversity Committee.

BANKING DOCUMENTATIONS FOR HOUSING FINANCE - S3 & S4

Organised by the Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee, this webinar originally scheduled for 30 September 2021 as part of the Banking documentations for Housing Finance, was held from 2:00pm to 4:00pm via Zoom. The webinar was presented by R. Yogeswari and Susan Joseph moderated by Thilagam Panasamy. We had 90 participants.

AN INTRODUCTION TO INSOLVENCY

Organised by the Professional Development Committee, this webinar was conducted by Janice Ooi Huey Peng and moderated by Wong Kum Heng (Francis). It was held via Zoom from 3:00pm to 5:00pm. We had 47 participants.

ENGAGEMENT SESSION WITH LPPSA

The Corporate & Conveyancing Practice Committee (“CCPC”) was invited to an engagement session with the Public Sector Home Financing Board (“LPPSA”) whereby they shared the latest information and updates to their system.

The engagement session was held at 2:30pm via Google Meet. The CCPC was represented by the Chairperson, Lim Yin Faye and members of the CPPC, Sathish Mavath Ramachandran, Nahzatul Ain, R.Yogeswari and Susan Joseph.

KL BAR - LINCOLN'S INN ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF MALAYSIA | E-MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2021

Organised by the Young Lawyers Committee the competition was held via Zoom. 19 teams signed up for the competition and they were from International Islamic University Malaysia, University Multimedia, SEGi College Sarawak, Taylors University, University Kebangsaan Malaysia, University Utara Malaysia, University of Sultan Zainal Abidin, University Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Advance Tertiary College, Brickfields Asia College, University of Bristol and KDU College.

23 members of the Judiciary and 43 members of the Bar participated as judges for the competition.

The results of the competition were as follows:

Champion - Team 2111 from University Malaya
Runner-Up - Team 2116 from Brickfields Asia College
Best Oralist - Reuben Choong Bi Qian (Team 2111)
Best Team Written Submissions - Team 2116
