Seminar on Legal Due Diligence: The Necessary Evil of Merger and
Acquisition
Organised
by the Young Lawyers Committee (YLC), this seminar was presented by Addy Herg
on 2 December 2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The
seminar was attended by 58 participants. The seminar covered the following
topics: "Introduction"; "Purpose of Legal Due Diligence";
"Understanding the objectives"; "The various aspects of legal
due diligence investigations"; "Connecting the dots";
"Legal analysis and legal opinion"; "The applicable law and
legal documents"; "Risk management and documentation";
"Accomplishing the objective"; and "Updates and
improvement".

Seminar
for Partners and Sole Proprietors on Your Firm’s Financials
Organised
by the Professional Development Committee (PDC), this seminar was presented by
Lim Kien Chai on 6 December 2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 9:00 am to 5:00
pm. The seminar was attended by 26 participants. The aim of the seminar was to
walk participants through the financial statements of a typical law firm.

Pupils
Introduction Session
As a monthly tradition organised by the Pupils Committee, the Pupils
Introduction Session for December was held on 7 December 2016. The session,
attended by 82 pupils, was led by Dinesh Muthal. The purpose of the session is
to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur
Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee
(KLBC) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for
pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period
and other members of the KLBC were also present to provide input and possible
solutions. Like previous sessions, the pupils were also shown a video montage
of the History of the Malaysian Bar.

on The Ombudsman for Financial Services
Organised
by the Professional Development Committee (PDC), this seminar was presented by
Jeremy Lee on 8 December 2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.
The seminar was attended by 22 participants.

KL Bar
Grand Prix 2016
The KL Bar Grand Prix 2016 was held on 10
December 2016 at the Shah Alam Stadium Circuit, Level 1, Quadrant C, Shah Alam
Stadium, Section 13, 40000 Shah Alam. A total of seven teams, including an
invited Audi A5 Group team, participated in this event.
The top three winners of the Endurance Race were:
1. Barace Pertama;
2. The Racing Lawyer; and
3. Permata Yang Hilang.
The Grand Prix continued with the Sprint Race
where each team was required to designate a driver to participate in an eight
lap race. The winners for the Sprint Race were:
1. Shahir bin Ab Razak;
2. Mohd Munzeer bin ZainulAbidin; and
3. Mohd Norfazli bin Mohd Zakaria.

Conveyancing
Workshop for Pupils
Organised specifically for pupils by the Pupils
Committee, this workshop held on 15 December 2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from
3:00 pm to 5:30 pm was presented by Jacky Loi Yap Loong. It focused primarily
on the practical aspects of handling a conveyancing brief covering the
following areas: "Overview of the Conveyancing Process";
"Essential clauses found in a Sale & Purchase Agreement";
"How to fill up the relevant NLC Forms"; and "Practical Pointers
for the conveyancing lawyer". The
workshop was attended by 37 pupils.

The
Rumah Wake 1 Christmas Cheer
Organised
by the Young Lawyers Committee (YLC), the visit to Rumah Wake 1, a shelter for children who
are neglected and abused, was held on 18 December 2016. In the true spirit of
Christmas, the young lawyers went with presents for all the 13 children in the
home. Members of the Bar helped by donating basic necessities that were needed
for the shelter.
