Pupils Introduction Session
As a
monthly tradition organised by the KLBC Pupils Committee, the Pupils
Introduction Session for September was held on 8 September 2016. The session,
attended by 65 pupils, was led by Shashi Devan and Dinesh Muthal. The purpose
of the session is to introduce pupils to the structure of the Malaysian Bar and
the Kuala Lumpur Bar, the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur
Bar Committee (KLBC) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a
session for pupils to raise issues and problems faced by them during their
pupillage period and other members of the KLBC were also present to provide
input and possible solutions. Like previous sessions, the pupils were also
shown a video montage of the History of the Malaysian Bar.

KL Bar Social Get-Together
The first edition of the KL Bar Social Get-Together for the term 2016/17 was held on 9 September 2016 at Movida @ Changkat Bukit Bintang. Organised by the Social, Arts & Recreation Committee, the event attracted about 30 members of the Bar and pupils-in-chambers.

Sports Carnival – KL Bar vs RSC
The
Kuala Lumpur Bar hosted the 25th Annual “Sports Carnival” between the Kuala
Lumpur Bar (KL Bar) and Royal Selangor Club (RSC) for the YA Tan Sri Dato’
Harun Hashim Challenge Trophy. All games were played on 9 and 10 September
2016. The prize-giving dinner was held on 10 September 2016 which was well
attended by all participants. The Series ended in a 4-4 tie and KL Bar and RSC
were declared as joint winners.

Visit to PAWS
Organised
by the KLBC Young Lawyers Committee (YLC), the visit to PAWS Animal Welfare
Society (PAWS) was held on 10 September 2016. Members of the Bar not only spent
time with the animals at the shelter, they also helped to bathe and walk the
dogs and clean the shelter area. Generous donors had also come forward to
donate various items that were in PAWS’s wishlist such as pet food, parasite
removal products, laundry detergent, rubbish bags, etc. All the items were
handed to PAWS during the visit.

Seminar on The Law of Joint Ventures
Organised by the KLBC Professional Development
Committee (PDC), this seminar was presented by Lim Kien Chai on 27 September
2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The seminar was attended
by 79 participants. The main objective of the seminar was to share with the
participants, in a practical context, the variety of different legal
arrangements within which entrepreneurs describe or hold them out as being in a
“joint venture”.

Seminar on Client Management
Organised
by the KLBC Young Lawyers Committee (YLC), this seminar was presented by Jamie
Wong on 28 September 2016 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm. The
seminar was attended by 13 participants. The seminar covered the following
topics: "Knowing Your Clients"; "Getting Ahead Of Them";
"Promoting Strategic Thinking"; "Developing Essential Soft
Skills"; and "Forging Long-Term Professional Relationship".

Forum on Proposed LPA Amendments: Serious Threat to the Independence of the
Malaysian Bar
Organised
by the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee in collaboration with the Bar Council, this
forum was held on 28 September 2016 at the Auditorium Tan Sri Dato’ KR Soma,
Wisma Tun Sambanthan from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The panellists for the forum were
Steven Thiru, Lim Chee Wee and Mohd Hishamudin Bin Md Yunus and it was
moderated by Khaizan Sharizad Ab Razak. The forum was attended by 77
participants.
