KLBC EC Supports Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s Initiative in declaring the 1st and 3rd Sunday Mornings of Every Month as Car Free Mornings

The KLBC Environmental Committee (KLBC EC) has participated in Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) initiative in dedicating the first and third Sunday morning of the month as ‘car free mornings’, on 19 April 2015.

The KL Car Free Morning sees participants from the Kuala Lumpur Bar arriving as early as 6:00 am to loan bicycles from OCBC Cycle (Note: OCBC was the sponsor for the car free morning initiative on 19 April 2015). The bicycles were given out on a first come, first served basis.

The event was flagged off at 7:00 am to a rousing support. Our 7km journey was accompanied by street entertainers, live bands, friendly and wide smiling City Hall Officers working hard to keep vehicles off the charted route, horse-drawn carriages with couples showcasing Malaysian traditional wedding costumes and hardworking City Hall personnel tailing the horses closely, scooping horses faeces - keeping the streets of KL squeaky clean.

Being able to walk in the middle of the main roads of KL City made everyone feel like they were kings of the road. After a two-hour rendezvous, the roads were then opened back to normal traffic at 9:00 am. Thereafter we made our way to Dataran DBKL where we joined the masses for an upbeat Zumba workout which was followed by the launch of “Discover Malaysia by Bicycle Guidebook”.

The crowd started to dissipate around 10:00 am.
