Meeting
with the Director of the KL Courts
This Meeting between
the Director and Administrative Officers of the KL Courts and the KL Bar Civil
Practice Committee (CvPC) was held at 2:45 pm at the Bilik Mesyuarat Anggerik,
KL Court Complex. The CvPC was represented by HR Dipendra, Co-Chairperson of
the CvPC and two other CvPC members namely Ajeet Kaur and Srividhya
Ganapathy. Amongst the issues raised at
the meeting were, parking within the KL Court Complex by lawyers; security guards
not allowing people entry into the KL Court Complex because of inappropriate
dressing; taxis entering and dropping off passengers at the foyer; ramp at the right
wing of the car park area; water wastage and broken taps/flushes in the
bathrooms; reducing energy consumption; no smoking in the KL Court Complex;
haphazard parking of motorcycles by runners; and pupils who have not been “short-called”
appearing in Court.

Professionals Alliance Social Get Together
Organised by the
Pharmacy fraternity of the Young Professionals Alliance, the get-together was
held on Saturday 5 July 2014 at Publika, Solaris Dutamas. Those in attendance
consisted of participants from the following professions, lawyers, arbitrators,
pharmacist, engineers, doctors and architects.

Seminar on Introduction to Hibah
Jointly organised by
the KL Bar Corporate and Conveyancing Practice Committee and Professional Development Committee, this
seminar was presented by Amir Bahari on 8 July 2014 at the KL Bar Auditorium
from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The seminar was attended by 16 participants. The
seminar covered, "Definition of Hibah", "The Pillars of
Hibah", "Revocation of Hibah", "Monetising Hibah for your
Legal Practice", "Current Legal Trend" and "Reported Case Laws".

Pupils
Introduction Session
Organised by the KL Bar
Pupils Welfare Committee, the pupils introduction session for July was held on 10
July 2014. The session, attended by 51 pupils, was led by Shashi Devan. Pupils
were briefed on the structure of the Malaysian Bar and the Kuala Lumpur Bar,
the election to both the Bar Council and the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee
(“KLBC”) and the highlights of the Malaysian Bar. It included a session for pupils
to raise issues and problems faced by them during their pupillage period and
members of the KLBC were on hand to provide input and possible solutions. Amongst
the issues raised by the pupils at this session was the unfriendly staff at the
RKKK (Petition) Registry and pupil’s allowance. The pupils were also shown a
video montage of the History of the Malaysian Bar.

Organised by the KL Bar
Young Lawyers Committee, this seminar was presented by Sharon Chong Tze Ying on
11 July 2014 at the KL Bar Auditorium from 3:00 pm to 6:15 pm. The seminar was
attended by 23 participants. The seminar covered, “What is International
Commercial Arbitration?", “Arbitration vs Litigation”, "The
Arbitration Clause", "Arbitral Institutions",
"Institutional Arbitration v Ad Hoc Arbitration", "Model

Meeting
with the Managing Judge of the Criminal Division of the KL Courts
This Meeting between
the Managing Judge of the Kuala Lumpur Criminal High Courts and the KL Bar Criminal
Practice Committee (CPC) was held at 10:00 am at the Bilik Mesyuarat Anggerik,
KL Court Complex. The CPC was represented by the Chairperson of CPC, Lim Chi
Chau and three other CPC members namely James FC Fong, Khor Boon How and
Shamsul Sulaiman. Jacky Loi also attended the meeting representing the KLBC as
well as the Legal Aid Centre. Amongst
the issues discussed at the meeting were assigned counsel for capital offense cases;
Court interpreters; working committee on pre-trial case management; lawyers too
engrossed with their phones; punctuality; lawyers on record without
notification; identity of lawyers in Court, YBGK; and Touts.

Young Lawyers Committee, this workshop was held on 18 July 2014 at the KL Bar Auditorium
from 9:00 am to 6:45 pm. The workshop was attended by 20 participants. The
topics and speakers for the course were, “Managing your Practice” by Ahmad
Fadzly Bin Abdul Gani; “Conveyancing Module” by Chong Wai Kuan; “Everyday
Problems Faced in Litigation” by Yudistra Darma Dorai; “Corporate Module” by
Munirah Maarof and Anthony Azad Tan Chien Liang; “Client Management” by Choo
Dee Wei; “Stress Management” by Khaizan Sharizad; and “Personal Branding” by

Galian Selangor
This meeting between
the Bar Council, Selangor Bar and Kuala Lumpur Bar and Pejabat Tanah dan Galian
Selangor (PTGS) was a follow up to the meeting held on 28 March 2014. The KL
Bar Corporate and Conveyancing Practice Committee was represented by Susan
Joseph. Issues discussed during the meeting were mainly reports/updates on
actions taken by the PTGS.
