A Spicy Event: - The KL Bar Young Lawyer’s Committee (KL Bar YLC) Charity Night 2010

The most anticipated annual event returned with the theme “Still Legally Talented – Too Legit to Quit” held on 2 July 2010 at Gosh! Asian Heritage Row, Kuala Lumpur that witnessed the legally talented in showcasing their skills in singing, acting, and dancing in ten performances throughout the night.

Guests started to fill in the venue from 7.00 p.m. and the event officially started at 8.15 p.m. when our emcees, Cara and Joseph, called for the guests’ attention to the stage and welcomed our performers on stage to kick off the night. The emcees continuously encouraged guests to donate throughout the night.

First up was “Staircase Wit” (represented by Sudesh Singh, Aaron Mathews, David Dinesh Matthew and Chryshantini Niles from Shook Lin & Bok) with their comedy sketch/monologue. Suffice to say, they managed to get the crowd in fits of laughter. This was followed by “Chord Cases”, a group of 7 talented vocalists, who showcased a soulful accappella performance (thanks to Lydia from Lee & May who led the group).

The next performance was a solo breakdance routine by “Lov MJ @ Mak Kah Kheong”, from Gooi & Azura, that got the crowd pumping with energy. Next up were lively band performances by “Wake Up for Eight Thirty” (represented by Daniel Cheong Chun Hui, Abdullah Khubayb, Sholiza Samantha Asli, Admad Fadzly, Stanley Morris and Emily Khaw Joo Hean from Cheah Teh & Su) and “Thin Izzy in collaboration with Judy” (from Zaid Ibrahim & Co) who sang a medley of songs by Alicia Keys.

If the first round of talent showcased was not enough to whet your appetite, as the night progressed, we had Darren Malis (from Ranjit Ooi & Robert Low) who dramatised the song “Quando Quando Quando” with the help of Siti Shahrom, and Melissa Sasidaran from the KL Bar YLC.

The competition grew hotter as the “Wondergirls” (the beautiful ladies from Skrine, Yeoh Eu Cheng, Tan Shi Wen, Melissa Stothard and Foo Siew Li) took the stage dancing to the original Korean Wondergirl’s Nobody – “I want nobody, nobody but YOU!”. This was subsequently followed by the ever-awesome and ever-sexy “Wonderboys”! (the equally beautiful gentlemen from Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, Andrew Chiew, Sean Yeow, Tay Weng Hwee, Raphael Kok and Damian Brychchy) who danced to the same song. Needless to say, their brave feminine act had the crowd cheering, or rather, roaring with ear-deafening support!

Thereafter, we had another band performance by “Ladies & the Tramps” (represented by Kimberly Lee, Sasha Ravindran, Muhamad Akram and Lim Kee Wai from Raja Darryl & Loh) to soothe down the atmosphere with soulful tunes.

As a spicy ending to the competition, the guests were entertained with a sexy pole and belly dance routine by “Policious” (the lovely ladies from Firdaus Azlina & Co, Noor Diana Syam binti Hazari, Natesa Ahmad Shukri and Liyana Abduk Rahman) who got the ladies envious, and the men frozen in awe, of their sexy yet acrobatic skills.

To add cream, cherries and chocolate sprinkles to the Night, DiGi auctioned off a Blackberry 9000 Bold and a Nokia E52 after the performances which managed to fetch a healthy sum for charity!

After the donations were counted, the winners were identified as follows:

Winner: The LHAG Wonderboys (total donations received – RM18,561.50)

First Runner Up: RDL’s Ladies & the Tramps (total donations received – RM14,074.00)

Second Runner Up: SLB’s Staircase Wit (total donations received – RM7,881.85)

Crowd Pleaser: The LHAG Wonderboys

In view of the FIFA World Cup 2010 season, cheers went not only to the hot performers on stage, but vuvuzella’s were also blown at 10.p.m to support hot footballers on field, as the quarter finals match between Brazil v. Holland was broadcasted live on a projector and LCD screens in and about the venue.

After a successful event, we, the KL Bar Young Lawyers Committee, are proud to announce that a more than 900 tickets were sold and a total amount of RM48,070.60 were received from the donations collected on the night alone!

Proceeds from the sale of tickets and donations received will be donated to needy homes, such as the Marginal Youth Centre (home for children whom are either orphans, abused or from a single parent family) and the Selangor Handicapped & Mentally Retarded Children Centre (a home for the autistic, bed-ridden, blind, deaf and the mentally handicapped children).

Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to DiGi!, as our main sponsor for the event, and not forgetting the performers, guests, supporters, donors and the organising committee – Thank You!

We hope you enjoyed this year’s Charity Night as much as we did, and look forward to organising yet another charity night next year. Please do continue to lend us your support and more!
