The KL Bar Auditorium was abuzz with talent on 19 June 2010 when auditions were held for the upcoming KL Bar Charity Night 2010. The ‘presiding judges’ were Seira Sacha, Siti Shahrom, Melissa Sasidaran and Christine Ooi.
First up was Judy from Zaid Ibrahim & Co., who sang Alicia Keys’s “If I Ain’t Got You”, unplugged, for the judges. It was a teaser of what would be a band performance on the actual Night together with the band Thin Izzy.
Next was KK Mak from Gooi & Azura, who did a dance routine titled “Lov MJ” consisting of Michael Jackson and breakdance moves. It was a high-octane performance, to the background of a cool medley of dance beats.
Then came Chord Cases, an a capella group, one of whom is a pupil at Lee & May. The awesome singing in perfect harmony raised goosebumps among the judges.
After that, Wake Up For Eight Thirty from Cheah Teh & Su came on to perform “Buses and Trains” by Bachelor Girl and “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon. Albeit an unplugged performance, with just the woodwork of a guitar as percussions, it was nevertheless impressive.
Shook Lin & Bok showed us a snippet of their drama/comedy sketch, “Staircase Wit”. Sudesh delivered a scene so intense and heartwrenching, it struck silence in the room.
Finally, Darren Mallis of Ranjit Ooi & Robert Low performed “Quando, Quando, Quando” with his guitar. He also managed to vow the judges with his raw, edgy voice.
Some performers did not make it to the auditions but subsequently submitted video recordings for the judges’ consideration. Those acts are:
- Wonder Boys of Lee Hishamuddin Allen & Gledhill
- Wonder Girls of Skrine
- Policious of Firdaus Azlina & Co
- Ladies & the Tramps of Raja Darryl & Loh.
From the looks of it, Friday, the 2nd of July, would definitely be a Night to remember!
