Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary & Deer Land Park

On 23.01.2010, the Kuala Lumpur Bar Environmental Law and Humanities Committee organised a study trip to the Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary and Deer Land Park. The members of the Bar as well as their friends and family members had taken part in this informative trip. The 36 participants had gathered at the Kuala Lumpur Sentral station as early as 9.00am and had begun their journey at 10.00am thereafter.

Participants reached their first destination, Deer Land Park at 11.30am. Throughout the visit at Deer Land Park the participants were guided by the keeper of the said Park. The participants were given the opportunity to get closer with the animals there, such as Deer, Wild Cats, Python, Bear, and many other protected and exotic species. Feeding the Deers, taking pictures with the Bear as well as holding the Python was the most memorable occasion that was enjoyed by the participants and indeed was a new experience for many of them.

Around 1.30pm, the participants continued their journey to the Elephant Sanctuary which is situated 8KM from the Deer Land Park. Upon arrival the participants were welcomed with a very delicious lunch. After the lunch participants took a trip around the park and enjoyed the events arranged by the Elephant Sanctuary Department, such as feeding the elephants, riding the elephants and of course taking a bath with the elephants. While some of the participants were taking a bath with the elephants, the rest of the participants were brought to observe how baby elephants were trained by the keepers.

The trip to Kuala Gandah Elephant Sanctuary ended at 4.30pm. Once again to appreciate the efforts of the Elephant Sanctuary Department, the Kuala Lumpur Bar Environmental Law and Humanities Committee had donated a sum of RM500 for the welfare of the elephants.

The whole trip was an amazing experience and had achieved the purpose i.e. to educate the participants to appreciate the value of the nature surrounding us and the need to take care of other creatures of God.

Soon after the trip, some of the participants had expressed their pleasures and gratitude as follows:

Ms Shanti:

“I brought along my 2 young daughters and although this is not their first trip to the elephant sanctuary, they enjoyed their trip immensely (in fact I think they had a better time this time round!). We started by feeding the deers, which were so adorable and was then given a nice trip round the park by the very friendly keeper. We then proceeded to a very very delicious lunch. hmmmm I still remember the chicken :)

Then came the elephants! We were splashed by a rather playful elephant as the briefing was going on, to the delight of my girls, we then proceeded to feed and ride the wonderful elephants before the best part of the whole trip…bathing them! My girls jumped into the river before the elephants came along and refused to come out even after the elephants had left! Despite the day long trip, they were not tired at all as the trip was not rushed and our comfort was well taken care off. The whole trip was very well planned. Thank you :)”

Mr. Yusoff Kadir

“I really enjoyed the trip. Thanks to the organisers and all the participants.”

Mr. Roger Chan

“Thank you for organising a wonderful trip. It was an exhilarating experience with animals.”

Mr. Clement Lee

“Me & my family really enjoyed the Kuala Gandah Ele-deer Park especially the tame & cute deers. It was a fantastic experience riding on the elephant without the saddle and bathing the elephant was something extra-ordinary and fun too.”
