Dear members,
Since my last entry, KL Bar Committee has rapidly moved to initiate new activities for the members.
After perusing 3 quotations, we have chosen one and engaged the Designer to re-design our aging and outdated KL Bar Website. We hope to complete this as soon as possible, but from the discussions with the Designer, the whole process will likely take 3 months to complete. We will keep you updated on the same.
The Young Lawyers Committee will be hosting their annual Charity Nite. The largest social event of the YLC, Charity Nite has come a long way since it's first edition in 2005. This year will be the 5th Anniversary of the Charity Nite. YLC will be making more announcements on this soon, though I am permitted to say that the tentative date for the Charity Nite is 4th July 2009.
Our Civil Court Liaison Committee have been working extra hard to bring the comments and messages of the members to the Judiciary, particularly about the current tracking system in KL High Court. The parking situation at the Duta Court Complex is not getting any better. KLBC has conveyed our members' displeasure of the parking situation at the said Court to the Chief Justice, and with CCLC leading this initiative, we are looking for a solution. It is likely a shuttle service will be provided at a minimum cost for our members to commute from the MATRADE car park to Duta Court. CLCC has identified a shuttle service provider for that and we are made to understand that the Court Administrators have communicated with the licence providers at the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) to consider that Service Provider's licence application. That is still tentative at the moment.
The Environmental & Humanities Committee (EHC) had a successful Earth Day project and will continue to put forward Environmental issues.
The Publication Committee has taken a new direction, wherein RELEVAN is now online. All RELEVAN Articles will be posted on this Blog until such time the Publication Committee decides to produce the printed copies. Recently, the Chairperson of the Publication Committee's (Brendan Siva) article was put up on this Blog.
Our Professional Development Committee's (PDC) programme continue to grow and new seminars and workshops will be organised soon. Do watch out for PDC's diary which should be out by this month.
The Pupils Welfare Committee have fixed Dialogues date related to the Ethics Programme. The dialogue with the Bar Council's PDC will give an insight on how the Ethics Programme is run. Pupils are encouraged to attend. The Dialogues dates are on KL Bar Website.
With the Badminton Carnival over, the Sports activities in KL Bar will continue as usual. KLBC has placed a permanent booking for a Badminton Court at the Selangor Badminton Association Court. Do contact our Sport Chairman; Mr Muhendaran at muhensri@streamyx.com for more information on Sports.
The Criminal Practice Committee, Conveyancing Practice Committee, and Social, Arts & Culture Committee have already started their work. The Conveyancing Practice Committee for example; have been communicating with the Land Office and Stamp Office on regular basis. Our Criminal Practice Committee continue to dialog with the Courts to improve the Criminal Justice system.
Our Social Arts & Culture Committee (SACC) will host a MOVIE Nite on 27th June 2009 at the GSC Cinema at Pavillion, where TRANSFORMERS 2 will be shown. Tickets can be purchased at RM12 or RM15; at the KL Bar Secretariat. Please contact KL Bar Secretariat at 03 26933585.
And before I go, do consider picking up a file or two from the Legal Aid Centre. Aid Legal Aid!
Thank you.
Regards,
Richard Wee
