Earth Day - 22/4/09

Dear Lawyers

KLBC's Environmental & Humanities Committee as part of our awareness campaign has organized a simple event for members to be able to be part of theEarth Day Celebrations. Every 22nd April of the year, the world celebrates Earth Day. The event was first celebrated in the United states of America way back in 1970 and it is an event that since  then with rising awareness Earth Day has been celebrated all over the world.

Over the coming months The Environmental & Humanities Committee will introduce a number of strategies that can be adopted by lawyers and legal firmsenabling them to independently act on reducing their carbon footprint. [Carbon footprint is generally measured by the amount of CO2 emission into the atmosphere].

The 1st of these strategies involves taking ownership of the waste that is produced individually or as a firm.

Whilst we encourage all of our members to recycle on that day, we shall also be holding an 'Old / disused paper collectionexercise at the KL Bar Secretariat on the 22nd April 2009.  All paper collected on that day will be sent for recycling.

We encourage all of you to be part of this activity and show your concern not just for the environment but also for the future of your children. The effectiveness of this campaign lies in your participation and not just the amount of paper collected.

The paper collection will be held between 10.00 am to 3.00 pm on the 22nd April 2009, KL Bar, 8th Floor, Wisma Kraftangan.

Proceeds from the sale will go directly towards conservation projects planned by the Environmental & Humanities Committee.

Re-cycle and save the environment.

Thank you.
