Earth Hour 2009 is set to be the largest environmental event in history.
Shame on you if you are not part of it!
Size does matter! What is the measure of your carbon footprint? While the former has many connotations, the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee invites all of you to partake in this global event towards sustainability and minimising the effects of climate change by reducing the size of your carbon footprint.
The event known as “Earth Hour” finds its origins in Australia where it was first celebrated two years ago when it was estimated that 2.2 million people and thousands of businesses observed a power shut down and even while the event is still at its infancy has managed to garner overwhelming support effortlessly throughout the world.
WWF in their recent press release stated that “Earth Hour is a global event created to symbolise that each one of us, working together, can make a positive impact on climate change.” They expect that on March 28, 2009 at 8:30pm tens of millions of people in hundreds of cities around the world will make a bold statement about climate change by simply using less or no electricity for one hour.
More than 400 cities, thousands of businesses and over 50 million people around the world will be part of this event. Be part of this global event not just for your sake but for the future generations who are at your mercy to keep the world habitable for them in the future!
Statistics taken from the United Nations indicates that Carbon emissions in Malaysia have increased by 221 percent since 1990. By switching off for at least an hour, we can help ease pollution. The Earth Hour cannot solve all the ills of the Environment, but let it be our resolve to heal the Environment.
On 28.03.2009 car pool or better still use public transport to get about and for a whole hour from 8.30p.m onwards, whether at work or at your home shut down as many electrical equipment as possible, turn off the lights and be engulfed with a sense of pride and fulfillment as you sit back whether indoors or outdoors and reduce your carbon footprint.
