Results of the KL Bar AGM Elections

The 19th Annual General Meeting of the Kuala Lumpur Bar was held this afternoon (23.02.2011) at the Auditorium, Level 3 Wisma MCA, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur. Report on the Launch of the Malaysian Bar Council’s MyConstitution Campaign for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur

The Launch of the Malaysian Bar Council’s MyConstitution Campaign for the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur was held on 16 February 2011 at HELP University College. Close to 150 enthusiastic students were present at the launch. The emcee for the launch was Ravin Singh, the Chairperson of the Bar Council Legal Aid Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The launch was officiated by Anand Ponnudurai the Chairman of the Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee with a welcoming speech and was followed by Mr Lua Bo Feng, the Constitutional and Administrative Law lecturer from the University College who gave a speech on behalf of HELP. The Deputy Chairperson’s of the Bar Council Constitutional Law Committee, Maha Balakrishnan and Syahredzan Johan then gave an introduction of the Campaign and explained their aims and vision for the Campaign. Statement of the Information Technology Committee (ITC) of Kuala Lumpur Bar Committee

We make reference to the recent announcement by the Government of Malaysia of their proposals to amend the Printing Presses and Publications Act 1984 (PPPA), to include online content. ITC acknowledges that the proposed amendments are yet unknown. Nonetheless, ITC would implore and advocate that any amendments to the PPPA ought to be inline with the Right of the Freedom of Speech enshrined in the Malaysian Federal Constitution. ITC is also guided by the MSC Malaysia Bill of Guarantee, which guarantees no censorship on the Net. Any form of censorship or impediment to this enshrined right would be unconstitutional and a step backwards for Malaysia. Invitation to The KL Bar's Launch of the Malaysian Bar Council’s MyConstitution Campaign on 16.02.2011 As you might already know, the Bar Council’s Constitutional Law Committee (ConstiLC) has launched its Kempen Perlembagaanku/MyConstitution Campaign (“the Campaign”) on 13 November 2009. Report on the KL Bar Conveyancing Hi Tea and Get-together 2011

KL Bar Conveyancing Practice Committee had successfully organised a Hi-Tea and Get-together event on 25.01.2011. The event was held at the Annexe Gallery, Central Market, Kuala Lumpur and was attended by about 100 Conveyancing Lawyers and invited guests. Attending guests included the Director, Deputy Directors and Senior Officers of the related government agencies namely from the Wilayah Land Office, Selangor Land Office, Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia and the Valuation Office of Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. This event was the first event ever held especially for the Conveyancing Lawyers. It is my hope that this event could be held annually as an avenue for conveyancing lawyers to gather, exchange ideas and foster better relationship with the related government agencies.
